{"id":114,"date":"2015-02-18T11:23:26","date_gmt":"2015-02-18T16:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/alexchapin\/?p=114"},"modified":"2015-02-18T11:24:01","modified_gmt":"2015-02-18T16:24:01","slug":"techne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/alexchapin\/2015\/02\/18\/techne\/","title":{"rendered":"Techne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To help faculty and students find software for teaching, learning and research, we&#8217;re developing an online inventory of such software on a site we&#8217;ve called <a href=\"https:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/techne\/\" target=\"_blank\">Techne<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One of the challenges of software inventories is figuring out how to organize the various types of software available. \u00a0Currently we are using two taxonomies. \u00a0The first is a hierarchical taxonomy which is\u00a0used to organize software into a limited number of\u00a0categories. \u00a0These are displayed on the site in the left sidebar. \u00a0The second taxonomy\u00a0is used to organize software in ways not captured by the\u00a0hierarchical\u00a0categories&#8230;.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We are assuming both of these taxonomies will evolve over time. \u00a0New terms may be added or removed from both\u00a0taxonomies. \u00a0Categories may be converted to tags or tags converted to categories and so on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/alexchapin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2015\/02\/multi-taxonomy01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-116\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/alexchapin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2015\/02\/multi-taxonomy01.png\" alt=\"multi-taxonomy01\" width=\"231\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/alexchapin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2015\/02\/multi-taxonomy01.png 231w, http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/alexchapin\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2015\/02\/multi-taxonomy01-120x123.png 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><\/a>To help users navigate the site, we&#8217;ve enabled our Multi-Taxonomy Browser plugin that was developed for our connection hub sites. \u00a0This plugin allows users to see all the categories and tags related to the current one. \u00a0Users can chose to filter by multiple taxonomy terms to drill in deeper.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To help faculty and students find software for teaching, learning and research, we&#8217;re developing an online inventory of such software on a site we&#8217;ve called Techne.
