
{"id":37,"date":"2012-12-01T17:13:47","date_gmt":"2012-12-01T17:13:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/alexchapin\/?p=37"},"modified":"2015-02-17T18:58:36","modified_gmt":"2015-02-17T23:58:36","slug":"labs-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/alexchapin\/2012\/12\/01\/labs-site\/","title":{"rendered":"Labs Site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The OAT is working on creating a site for publishing information about labs, see:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/labs\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/labs\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We programmatically created posts for each lab with basic information using the <a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.org\/extend\/plugins\/csv-importer\/\" target=\"_blank\">CSV Importer<\/a> plugin. \u00a0We used categories and tags to organize the lab information. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/oat\/team\/crystal-barton\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crystal Barton<\/a> updated the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/marpa\/translucence\/wiki\/Overview\" target=\"_blank\">Translucence<\/a> theme to use custom categories and tag labels from the custom tag and category base name specified in the site settings (see: <a href=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/labs\/location\/details\/custom-categories-and-tags-labels\/\" target=\"_blank\">Custom Categories and Tags Labels<\/a>). \u00a0This enabled us to rename &#8220;categories&#8221; to &#8220;specifications&#8221; and &#8220;tags&#8221; to &#8220;software.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Each lab post was categorized according to building, department, operating system and number of seats. \u00a0Each lab post was tagged with a list of all the software available on its each of its workstations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/oat\/team\/steve-crull\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Crull<\/a>, our computer systems coordinator then embedded to each post a lab map generated with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerlabsolutions.com\/labstats.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">LabStats<\/a>. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/oat\/team\/aaron-forsyth\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aaron Forsyth<\/a> suggested we only show an excerpt of lab posts so it would be easier to see a list of labs available in a given building or department or labs can had certain software installed. \u00a0We&#8217;re still working on refining this excerpt view to provide the most relevant information.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/oat\/team\/adrian-jelley\/\">Adrian Jelley<\/a> has taken panoramic photos of many of our labs. \u00a0To learn how he did this, see his blog post &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/adrianjelley\/blog\/2012\/11\/12\/how-to-create-panoramic-photos-using-adobe-photoshop\/\" target=\"_blank\">How to create panoramic photos using Adobe Photoshop<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re also working on adding descriptions of each specification (i.e. category) and each software (i.e. tag). \u00a0So on the page that lists of labs in a given building, the building &#8220;description&#8221;
