D3 Word Cloud Widget<\/h3>\n

The word clouds on the home pages of our connection sites uses a WordPress plugin we are developing for creating customizable word clouds similar to Wordle<\/a>. While Wordle uses Java, we have created similar functionality by means of the\u00a0D3 Javascript library, based on the work by Jason Davies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Connection Hub Plugin<\/h3>\n

Much of the content on our connection sites uses our\u00a0Connection Hub<\/a>\u00a0WordPress plugin. \u00a0This plugin is similar to\u00a0the FeedWordPress<\/a> plugin in that it aggregates and synchronizes content from many sites. \u00a0Connections Hub differs from FeedWordPress in that it will synchronize content on WordPress pages, as well as posts, and will only store the most recent updates. \u00a0The plugin essentially creates a “connections” custom post type with custom fields for contact information and sorting.<\/p>\n

The plugin also creates custom taxonomies (connections-groups and connections-links) to provide various ways of establishing connections between people. \u00a0The Mosaic\u00a0Connections<\/a> site uses the\u00a0“connections-groups” taxonomy to organize people by discipline and the\u00a0“connections-links” taxonomy to\u00a0organize people by research interests.<\/p>\n

Multi-Taxonomy Browser<\/h3>\n

Our\u00a0connection sites also use\u00a0a Multi-Taxonomy Browser<\/a>\u00a0plugin\u00a0we are developing. This plugin creates a list of related taxonomy terms and supports filtering by multiple terms in a way similar to delicious.com (see: @marpa #wordpress #plugins<\/a>).
