Wendy Pascual is from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and resides in Charlotte, North Carolina since 2003. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and has post-graduate education in Community Development. She has participated in many conferences from Dominican Republic to Brazil, to South Africa that focus on public policy, human rights, equity and inclusion, and the effects and eradication of poverty around the world.
Mrs. Pascual brings more than 25 years of experience working with organizations that bring social awareness and uplift to populations that are often disenfranchised and marginalized. Her professional goals are to contribute, encourage and impact individual, as well as community health, by promoting access to care. Assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors through the education. Serve as a resource to assist people in need to connect with the programs and services available in the community.
When Wendy moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2003, she spoke no English but had a great desire to become involved in the community. She began studying English and at the same time started to volunteer with area organizations. Through her volunteer efforts, she was able to see the great need for access to health care, health education and prevention programs that the Latino community had.
Wendy Pascual is the Co-founder and Executive Director of Camino Community Center a non-profit organization which mission is to equip people to live a healthy, hopeful, and productive lives. In 2004, Pastor Russell Price, Wendy’s husband, Eliseo Pascual and herself founded Bethesda Health Center, a free clinic with the mission of provide access to medical services and health education to the low income and uninsured Latino community living in Mecklenburg and surrounding county.
Wendy definitely “walks the talk” on volunteerism and community involvement as she has faithfully volunteered with several local organizations; including Mi Casa, Su Casa, the Latin American Coalition, The Latin American Women Association, American Heart Association, Mecklenburg County Public Library, NCCJ’s Neighbors Program, Presbyterian Hospital’s “Congregational Health Promoter” program for Hispanic churches, and the Mecklenburg County Health Department’s “Health Ambassador Program”.
Wendy is the recipient of several honors and awards. In 2013, she received The Gold Award Volunteer Ambassador from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. In 2012, she received “Planting Seeds of Wellness” Award from the Mecklenburg Health Department. In 2011, received the Award of Gratitude from Faithfull to the Call Program. In 2010 and 2012 received Congregational Health Promoter of the Year from Presbyterian Hospital, Health Promoter Program. In 2010 received Latino Community Leader Award from Substance Abuse Prevention Program. She is the first Latina that received the Health Promoter of the Year award from Mecklenburg Health Department in three consecutive year 2009, 2010 and 2011. In 2009, received Latin Community Women award from the Latin Student Organization/University of North Carolina Charlotte.
Wendy states her life dream is to contribute to a world where equal opportunity exists for a better life to everyone, no matter what the person’s political, social, racial, and sexual or immigration status.
She is happily married to Eliseo Pascual and has three energetic boys: Yarince, Nelson, and Marcos.
