Applications for creating, designing, editing, converting, and producing multimedia content including sound, video, print media, presentation, animation, and modeling including applications used to play, edit, create, or record audio for purposes of dictation, music, broadcast, or otherwise and applications used to create, edit, or produce video content. Software ranges from simple clip editor tools, to professional video editing software, to DVD production tools. Finally, this category includes software for capturing. Capture software allows you to get a snapshot of something. For example, you could get a snapshot of your computer screen at a particular moment in time or for a period of time. This snapshot could be an image (screenshot) or video (screencast).

There is also capture software designed for capturing presentations, lectures and events

iTunes is a media player computer program used for playing, downloading, saving, and organizing digital music and video files.  The iTunes Store is available on Windows and Mac computers as well as the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad.Through the iTunes Store, users can purchase and download music, music videos, television shows, audio books, podcasts, movies, and movie rentals in some countries, and ringtones, available on the iPhone and iPod Touch (fourth generation onward).

Jing logoJing is a free download that allows users to easily capture basic video or images of their computer screen. Captured images can be annotated with markup tools and video captures can be narrated. Maximum video length is 5 minutes.

The captured information can then be saved to the local computer, copied/pasted into a document, or shared on the Web. Sharing options include Screencast.com, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, or FTP server.

Jing is compatible with the Macintosh and Microsoft Windows platforms. Users are required to create a free account in order to use the software.

Kaltura CaptureSpace is a video and screencast presentation tool. Kaltura CaptureSpace is available in UNC Charlotte’s Canvas instance. The tool has the ability to record a multimedia presentation, record screen and voice, record screen and video, record from a webcam, or record audio only. Captions can be added to the video through Canvas’ My Media link. Videos can also be embedded on a Canvas page and streamed from the external Katura server, optimizing playback and saving storage space in the Canvas course.

Interactive quizzes can be added to existing Kaltura videos.
