UNC Charlotte has Google Apps for Education which \u00a0integrated with Active Directory.<\/p>\n<p>Google Apps\u00a0features several\u00a0<a title=\"Web application\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Web_application\">Web applications<\/a>\u00a0with similar functionality to traditional\u00a0<a title=\"Office suite\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Office_suite\">office suites<\/a>, including\u00a0<a title=\"Gmail\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gmail\">Gmail<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Google Groups\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google_Groups\">Google Groups<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Google Calendar\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google_Calendar\">Google Calendar<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Google Drive\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google_Drive\">Drive<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Google Docs\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google_Docs\">Docs<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Google Sites\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google_Sites\">Sites<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Web-based Productivity Suite<\/h3>\n<p>The primary innovation of Google Apps is that they provide web-based\u00a0applications for word-processing, spreadsheets and presentations that are similar to Microsoft Office&#8217;s Word, Excel and PowerPoint. \u00a0One of the distinguishing features of Google Apps is &#8220;real-time collaboration.&#8221; \u00a0This means that multiple users can edit the same document at the same time and each will see the other&#8217;s edits as they occur.<\/p>\n<p>Google Apps also has granular access control that allows users to specify who can view, comment on or edit any give document, spreadsheet or presentation.<\/p>\n<h3>Case Studies<\/h3>\n<p>Google Drive is used widely at UNC Charlotte for a variety of purposes. \u00a0 Below are some examples.<\/p>\n<h4>College of Liberal Arts &amp; Sciences Administration<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-298\" src=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/techne\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2013\/12\/google-drive-admin-docs.png\" alt=\"google-drive-admin-docs\" width=\"938\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/techne\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2013\/12\/google-drive-admin-docs.png 938w, http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/techne\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2013\/12\/google-drive-admin-docs-300x85.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 938px) 100vw, 938px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The College of Liberal Arts &amp; Sciences (CLAS) Dean&#8217;s office uses\u00a0Google Drive for many of their administrative documents. \u00a0Various committees have Google Drive folders within the CLAS Administration folder for storing their agendas, meeting notes and documents for review. \u00a0Links to these files are published on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/clas-administration\/\">CLAS Administration<\/a>\u00a0site.<\/p>\n<p>Google Drive is also used extensively for documentation of CLAS administrative guidelines and procedures, see: <a href=\"http:\/\/inside-clas.uncc.edu\/\">Inside CLAS<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Availability:\u00a0UNCC Community Components: Docs, Sheets, Drawing, Slides Comparable: OpenOffice, Microsoft Office Google Apps\u00a0is a service from\u00a0Google\u00a0providing independently customizable versions of several Google products under a custom\u00a0domain name.
