Are you ready for the midterm? After you’ve turned in the midterm, feel free to take your break, but please, please, please be respectful of your fellow classmates and keep the noise level down. Some of you know your voices carry. Try to be quiet like I am.

Post Midterm Fun

Below are tutorials for InDesign and Photoshop. They’re easy enough to get done tonight in class, but, I guess, if you want to work somewhere else, that’s fine–just use your time wisely wherever you happen to be. I won’t give you any additional time to do these in class. You will probably notice that the tutorials are for older versions of Photoshop and InDesign. I thought about updating them for the newer versions, but, then again, I don’t do software instruction, so these are more tutorial than I normally give.

Picture Frame:

I want you to create an InDesign document on your own with help from this tutorial. You’ll be creating a “Picture Frame” that you will link to from your homepage.

Easy Logo:

Also, you need to create a logo using Photoshop. This logo is easy, and I have the tutorial up here.

You may also work quietly on your Document #2–Advertisement and Flyer. Please have others look at your designs, but, of course, please be quiet while others are taking the midterm. On October 8th, you’ll have a more formal workshop where I’ll ask you to comment on a fellow classmate’s document. Look at the assignments page for more details.

Midterm Grades

I’ll be turning in your midterm grades by Noon on Friday, 10/07. Your grade will be determined by this Midterm Exam, Participation, Canvas Prompts, and perceived effort in your Document #1. If you’re unhappy with your grade, you should strive to do better going forward. One of the best ways–in fact, two of the best ways–to do that is to leave your phone in your car, at home, in your bag, or anywhere not on your desk; also, you can stop skipping class. I grade across the semester, so you might want to revisit the syllabus’s definition of A, B, C, D, and F grades.

Future Fun

I’m giving you Monday (10/09) and Tuesday (10/10) off next week.
