Because they&#8217;re pros, we&#8217;ll let them go first and then discuss presentations. Also, ENGL 5182 needs to turn in their bibliographic essays or rhetoric projects.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Presentation Discussion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Let&#8217;s talk a bit about what to do and not do during presentations. Although your presentations for this class aren\u2019t the exact format you can expect throughout your careers, it\u2019s important to practice public speaking whenever you can. Your classmates want you to do well, so the classroom setting is great for practicing oral presentations.<\/p>\n<p>I have some questions about oral presentations for a class discussion:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What are some common presentation pitfalls?<\/li>\n<li>Why is understanding your purpose so important?<\/li>\n<li>What are some questions you should ask about your audience?<\/li>\n<li>What type of delivery method will work best for you or you and your group\u2014memorized, reading (scripted), notes, or impromptu?<\/li>\n<li>What are some advantages and disadvantages of the above delivery methods?<\/li>\n<li>What\u2019s important to keep in mind about visuals (which you must use?<\/li>\n<li>How should you manage your presentation style?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Finally, what should you include in your presentations? Obviously, you can\u2019t discuss every detail of your portfolio, so I suggest focusing on why you made the choices\/changes you did. A goal of this presentation is to get you to select relevant information to present to the class effectively in 4-5 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Your &#8220;Theories Presentation,&#8221; which is what the syllabus calls your portfolio presentation, is worth 5% of your grade. Below are the criteria I&#8217;ll use to base your grade:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Appearance of preparation<\/li>\n<li>Eye contact<\/li>\n<li>Voice Projection<\/li>\n<li>Relevance<\/li>\n<li>Time\u2014don\u2019t go over five minutes and don\u2019t go under four minutes (practice so you get it just right)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your final <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/pages.uncc.edu\/aaron-toscano\/engl4182-5182fall2017\/informationdesignassignments2017\/\">presentations<\/a><\/strong> will be next week, but, if we need extra time, we&#8217;ll have to carry over to the final exam period. Because the final exam won&#8217;t take very long, we&#8217;ll do the overflow presentations during the final exam time on Dec. 11th @ 6:30 pm. Don&#8217;t worry; it&#8217;ll be easier than the midterm exam.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll ask for volunteers to go first on presentation day, and then we&#8217;ll go alphabetically.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"style8\" align=\"left\"><strong>Portfolios<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"style8\" align=\"left\">Don&#8217;t forget to <strong><a title=\"Major Assignments for ENGL 4182\/5182\" href=\"http:\/\/pages.uncc.edu\/aaron-toscano\/engl4182-5182fall2017\/informationdesignassignments2017\/#portfolio\">review the Portfolio Revision requirements<\/a><\/strong>. Look them over before you leave and ask questions if you&#8217;re not sure.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Next Week and Beyond<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Well, that&#8217;s it for your reading this semester. You&#8217;ve done so well, that you should take the rest of the week off&#8230;starting Wednesday.
