
{"id":279,"date":"2015-04-28T09:14:43","date_gmt":"2015-04-28T13:14:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/anitablanchard\/?p=279"},"modified":"2015-04-28T09:14:43","modified_gmt":"2015-04-28T13:14:43","slug":"paying-for-online-gifts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/anitablanchard\/2015\/04\/28\/paying-for-online-gifts\/","title":{"rendered":"Paying for Online &#8220;Gifts&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is one of those blog posts where I&#8217;m not sure I&#8217;m supposed to post it on my personal blog\u00a0or my professional one. \u00a0This topic is one that I&#8217;m using in my personal life, but I can&#8217;t stop analyzing from my research\/academic perspective. \u00a0So I&#8217;m opting for the professional one and leaving out links that might financially benefit me (DOH!).<\/p>\n<p>So, I hate to shop. \u00a0I&#8217;m cheap and I hate parting with my money.<\/p>\n<p>HOWEVER, I have recently become a true fan (I won&#8217;t use addicted because it&#8217;s such a loaded term) of monthly shopping services. \u00a0It started with Stitch Fix, the gateway drug into additional shopping. \u00a0Then I tried Ipsy, Club W, and Glossy Box. \u00a0That makes up one clothing, two make ups, and one wine club I am now &#8220;subscribed&#8221; to.<\/p>\n<p>So why is a woman who hates shopping and parting with her money spending so much money on clothing, cosmetics, and wine? \u00a0((This is particularly ironic considering how much time I spend working at home in my pjs with dirty hair and a clean face. \u00a0The wine is not surprising))<\/p>\n<p>Because it&#8217;s like getting gifts every month (or two)!! \u00a0Yes, I *know* I&#8217;m paying for my gifts. \u00a0But all people get in the mail now are bills, advertisements, and magazines. \u00a0We never send personal letters to each other. \u00a0Snail mail is rare and. in our house. goes between the Grandkids and the Grandparents. \u00a0There&#8217;s little reason to get excited about what arrives in the mail. \u00a0Even Amazon. \u00a0I know what I&#8217;m getting. \u00a0We have a subscription for paper towels arriving today. \u00a0Woo. Hoo.<\/p>\n<p>But these other services are surprises!! \u00a0Gifts!!
