Dr. Smith’s Teaching Philosophy
Background & Context
Dr. Smith grew up in a low-income family and is a first generation college graduate. He credits much of his clinical and academic success to influential educators who inspired and mentored him through his clinical and academic journeys.
Philosophy
Each individual interprets their environment based on unique experiences, which are constantly evolving in a thoroughgoing flux. Dr. Smith aims to create a positive, supportive learning environment both in and out of the classroom.
Dualistic Transactions
Dr. Smith encourages autonomy and diversity of culture and thought. He inspires students to reach their potential, emphasizing independent thinking and psychological well-being. In his view, learning is a symbiotic exchange where he learns as much from students as they learn from him.
