Bio
Dr. Bria G. Stare (she/they) is an assistant professor in the Department of Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Before teaching, she counseled adult and adolescent clients in community, residential, and inpatient settings in north Texas. Bria’s research interests include mental health needs of incarcerated populations and prison abolition; resisting carceral practices in counseling and education; and intersections of critical theory, humanism, and mental health. They are a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in North Carolina.
