Most Russian possessive pronouns adopt the gender or number of the owned (defined) object. All possessives answer the questions with \u201cwhose?\u201d and this question word follows the same agreement rule. Here is how it looks like in a chart:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Look at the chart attentively. You may notice that:<\/p>\n

  1. The formula of \u201cgender diagnostics\u201d which works for nouns can be applied here too: masculine pronouns end in a consonant, while feminine ones end in -A<\/strong> or -\u042f<\/strong>, and neuter in -E<\/strong> or -\u00cb<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. The upper two lines and the lower two lines of pronouns form two rhyming groups:
    \n\u043c\u043e\u0301\u0439 – \u0442\u0432\u043e\u0301\u0439, \u043c\u043e\u044f\u0301 \u2013 \u0442\u0432\u043e\u044f\u0301; \u043d\u0430\u0448 \u2013 \u0432\u0430\u0448, \u043d\u0430\u0301\u0448\u0430 \u2013 \u0432\u0430\u0301\u0448\u0430<\/strong>, etc. This fact, which is otherwise insignificant, may be used as a prop for memorization.<\/li>\n
  3. The third person possessive pronouns are not included in the chart (we\u2019ll deal with them below).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
