Boreman\u00a0is Chair of the Department of Physics &amp; Optical Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.\u00a0 He served as the 2017 President of SPIE, the International Society for Optics and Photonics.\u00a0 He received the BS in Optics from University of Rochester, and the PhD in Optics from University of Arizona.\u00a0 From 1984 to 2011 he was on the faculty of the University of Central Florida, where he supervised 25 PhD students to completion.\u00a0 Prof. Boreman is coauthor of the graduate textbooks\u00a0<i>Infrared Detectors and Systems<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Infrared Antennas and Resonant Structures<\/i>, and author of\u00a0<i>Modulation Transfer Function in Optical &amp; Electro-Optical Systems<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Basic Electro-Optics for Electrical Engineers<\/i>.\u00a0 He has published more than 190 journal articles in the areas of infrared sensors and materials, optics of random media, and image-quality assessment.
