“History in Heidelberg”

Did you know that UNC Charlotte has a study abroad program especially designed for our History Majors?  The History in Heidelberg Program is geared towards giving our History Majors and Minors their own individual learning experience in Heidelberg, Germany.

Located in a thriving and beautiful city in Southwestern Germany with a historic medieval core, the University of Heidelberg, founded in 1386, is one of Germany’s top institutions and is an ideal base for a European stay.

Students can choose to study in Heidelberg for the Spring semester (Feb-July) or a full academic year. Students can take classes in either English or German and Heidelberg University provides up to 6 credit hours of intensive German-language training before the beginning of each term.  Housing assistance is also available.  Students pay their typical tuition fees directly to UNCC, and are responsible for funding their own travel, room, and board. You may apply your financial aid to study abroad.

Study abroad scholarships are available!

HAUS Scholarship for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

Students should have some familiarity with German and be willing to work on their language proficiency at UNC Charlotte before they enroll at Heidelberg.

Heidelberg has an extensive and outstanding faculty on most periods of history, including ancient, medieval and early modern European history, Eastern European history, global history, contemporary German and European history, South Asian and North American history. The city of Heidelberg also provides proximity to major European archives and libraries.

Credits earned according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) will be accepted by UNC Charlotte.
