
{"id":5,"date":"2012-10-25T22:04:15","date_gmt":"2012-10-25T22:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/template-faculty01\/?page_id=5"},"modified":"2018-12-04T15:59:22","modified_gmt":"2018-12-04T15:59:22","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/john-cox\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Discipline: <\/strong>Modern European and World History<\/div>\n<p><strong>Areas of expertise: <\/strong>The Holocaust;\u00a0comparative genocide; racism, fascism\u00a0and imperialism; working-class &amp; labor history; resistance<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Cox&#8217;s first book (<i>Circles of Resistance: Jewish, Leftist, and Youth Dissidence in Nazi Germany<\/i>) was published in 2009, and his <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #993366;text-decoration: underline\"><a style=\"color: #993366;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/John-M.-Cox\/e\/B0028OI92C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><i>To Kill a People: Genocide in the Twentieth Century<\/i><\/b><\/a><\/span><\/span> was published in February 2016 by Oxford University Press. John earned his Ph.D. in History at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2006 and came to UNC Charlotte in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>His current research projects analyze anti-Nazi resistance within Buchenwald and the post-war memory and political uses of that resistance; Jewish participation in the fight against Franco in Spain; and the relationship of capitalism to genocide.
