Green Book Assignment

Green Book Assignment
This assignment will be based on your use of this digital source: https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/collections/the-green-book#/?tab=about

Part I.

You are to write a brief synopsis (a paragraph or two) about the Green Book. Use these questions to guide you:

What is the book’s full title?

What need does the book fulfill?

Who is the audience for the book?

Why is this book necessary?

Part II.

Go to the Green Book guide for 1956

Now answer the following questions:

  1. How long had the book been in existence as of 1956?
  2. According to this issue, what’s the difference between white & black travelers?
  3. Why do you think the “negro traveler” needed “assured protection?”
  4. Go through the guide book and locate the town where you are originally from. What kind of accommodations were available to black travelers in that town in 1949?
