Jason and Schmutz participating in the UNCC Study Abroad Fair (2018)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This 14-day journey will examine Cuba\u2019s remarkable history and culture and explore how various African cultures, despite significant obstacles, blended with European influences to create contemporary Cuban culture. The program will begin with a tour of Old Havana- a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to over 500 years of architectural treasures. Excursions to the town of Regla and the province of Matanzas will examine the slave trade, the region\u2019s history of rebellion, Afro-Cuban religious traditions, and exchanges with Cuban scholars designed to explore the development of racial and national identity on the island. Among many other experiences, students will visit the Museum of the Revolution, National Union of Cuban Writers and Artists, National Literacy Museum, various community projects, as well as engage in music, dance, art, and religious encounters.
