Cooper joined the UNC Charlotte Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2018. She is a wife, mom of three, and veteran of the United States Navy. Dr. Cooper is passionate about her students, teaching, research, and service activities; and thoroughly enjoys opportunities to mentor students. Her primary areas of research include criminal justice and social diversity (i.e. race\/ethnicity, gender, class and crime), juvenile Justice (courts and corrections), faith-based programming, the religiosity\/crime relationship, program evaluations, and promoting diversity in both the criminal justice field and Higher Education. Additional interests include restorative justice, theory, and societal perceptions and responses to crime and criminal behaviors; and how those responses are informed by race, ethnicity, class, and gender. Her recent work has appeared in the Journal of Criminal Justice Education, Crime &amp; Delinquency, and Justice Quarterly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Cooper is also the Assistant Dean of Engagement for the College of Humanities &amp; Earth and Social Sciences.
