class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Center<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">City<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Literary<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Festival<\/span>\u00a0will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at UNC Charlotte\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Center<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">City<\/span>, 320 E. 9th Street.\u00a0 Co-sponsored by the English Department and UNC Charlotte\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Center<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">City<\/span>, this\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">festival<\/span>\u00a0is divided into two parts.\u00a0 The day-time part is intended for children and their families and will run from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.\u00a0 The evening part is intended for adults and will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.\u00a0 Both parts of the\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">festival<\/span>\u00a0are free and open to the public.\u00a0 For detailed information about the festival, please click on the appearances by children&#8217;s authors, creative activities, a live puppet show, a demonstration of giant puppets from the World of Creations, and a dance performance by Dances of India.\u00a0 Among the children&#8217;s authors who will participate are Zaidoon Al-Zubaidy, Tia Capers, Heather Freeman, Lisa Kline, Janaka Lewis, Jessica McEachern, Linda Phillips, Stephanie Prysiazniuk, Brandon Reese, Candice Smith, Greg Wiggan, and Kim Wilson.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The part for adults will feature appearances by four writers, an opening reception with live music by the Mark Larson Combo, poetry and fiction readings, and a book signing.\u00a0 The writers who will participate are Allison Hutchcraft, Patrice Gopo, Hannah Dela Cruz Abrams, and Tony Earley.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The organization of the\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Center<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">City<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Literary<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Festival<\/span>\u00a0is a collaborative effort, but three people have played especially important roles in planning for this event:\u00a0 Bryn Chancellor, Janaka Lewis, and Angie Williams.\u00a0 Without the hard work of these three members of the English Department, there would be no\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Center<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">City<\/span><span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Literary<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Festival<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>As I see it, the Center City Literary Festival functions as a sort of cultural catalyst.\u00a0 In the realm of chemistry, a catalyst, according to my dictionary, &#8220;is\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-sb-0\"><span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-dt\"><span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-dtText\">a substance that enables a chemical reaction to proceed<\/span><\/span><\/span>.&#8221;\u00a0 Put another way, a catalyst facilitates the bringing together of chemicals to form new compounds. \u00a0 Our\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Center<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">City<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Literary<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"m_-2051888814771600711gmail-m_8687675492502665054gmail-il\">Festival<\/span>\u00a0serves a similar function in relation to Charlotte&#8217;s cultural realm.\u00a0 The festival is bringing together authors, musicians, and dancers.\u00a0 It&#8217;s bringing together adults and children.\u00a0 It&#8217;s bringing together members of the university community and members of the broader Charlotte community. \u00a0 In the process of organizing the Center City Literary Festival, the English Department is contributing to Charlotte&#8217;s evolving cultural latest news:<\/p>\n<p><b>Meghan Barnes<\/b>\u00a0recently posted a new blog post on the work that she is doing at the Moore Place homeless shelter.\u00a0 Here is the link:\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbanministrycenter.org\/hugs-faith-cookies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.urbanministrycenter.org\/hugs-faith-cookies\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Allison Hutchcraft<\/b>\u00a0published a poem titled \u201cAlice in Millefleurs\u201d in\u00a0<i>Third Coast<\/i>.
