
{"id":4319,"date":"2024-09-15T12:34:45","date_gmt":"2024-09-15T16:34:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/mark-west\/?p=4319"},"modified":"2024-09-15T12:34:47","modified_gmt":"2024-09-15T16:34:47","slug":"the-11th-annual-celebration-of-verse-vino","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/mark-west\/blog\/2024\/09\/15\/the-11th-annual-celebration-of-verse-vino\/","title":{"rendered":"The 11th Annual Celebration of\u00a0Verse &amp; Vino"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The eleventh annual celebration of\u00a0<em>Verse &amp; Vino<\/em>, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation\u2019s grand literary gala and fundraiser, will take place in the Charlotte Convention Center on November 7, 2024.\u00a0\u00a0This event will feature <em>New York Times\u00a0<\/em>best-selling authors, wine, and food.\u00a0\u00a0I contacted Maggie Bean, the Director of Communications for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation, and asked her for more information about this year\u2019s\u00a0<em>Verse &amp; Vino<\/em>\u00a0event.\u00a0\u00a0Here is what she sent to me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>On Nov. 7, 2024, guests will have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to hear from&nbsp;<\/em>New York Times<em>&nbsp;bestselling authors Emiko Jean, Edward Lee and Jessica Shattuck, as well as Oscar-shortlisted producer and debut author Essie Chambers.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Presented by PNC Bank and emceed by radio legend Sheri Lynch, the signature evening program will showcase the shared joy that stems from reading and writing \u2013 and the importance of libraries and literacy in our community.&nbsp; The more than 1,300 expected attendees will experience a true sense of fellowship and spirit during the celebratory fundraising event at the Charlotte Convention Center.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This year\u2019s&nbsp;<\/em>Verse &amp; Vino<em>&nbsp;welcomes the following authors and their latest books, including:&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>Emiko Jean<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/em>The Return of Ellie Black<em>: A suspenseful page-turner that made horror legend\u00a0Stephen King call it \u201ca page-turning suspense novel, a shrewd character study, and a captivating mystery, all at the same time. The last fifty pages are magnetic. I couldn\u2019t put it down until I\u2019d experienced every last twist and turn.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>Edward Lee<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/em>Bourbon Land<em>: An ode to his old Kentucky whiskey; celebrated chef\u00a0 and PBS personality Vivian Howard said \u201cIf you think Kentucky whiskey only makes sense in a glass, let Chef Edward Lee\u2019s unmatched prose show you how bourbon eats as good as it drinks.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>Essie Chambers<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/em>Swift River<em>: The debut novel is a Read With Jenna\u00a0<\/em>Today<em>\u00a0Show Book Club pick and was recently longlisted for The Center for Fiction 2024 First Novel Prize.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>Jessica Shattuck<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/em>Last House<em>:\u00a0<\/em>New York Times<em>\u00a0called it \u201ca richly detailed, slow-burning family saga distinguished by incisive psychological insight and masterful research.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>New this year, guests will have access to more than authors (<\/em>Verse<em>) and wine (<\/em>Vino<em>).
