
{"id":92,"date":"2014-03-06T18:12:24","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T18:12:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/mark-west\/?p=92"},"modified":"2014-08-26T16:55:40","modified_gmt":"2014-08-26T16:55:40","slug":"monday-missive-march-3-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pages.charlotte.edu\/mark-west\/blog\/2014\/03\/06\/monday-missive-march-3-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Monday Missive &#8211; March 3, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/pages.charlotte.edu\/mark-west\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/322\/2014\/03\/Dr.-Suess.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-100\" alt=\"Dr. Suess\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/pages.charlotte.edu\/mark-west\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/322\/2014\/03\/Dr.-Suess.jpg?resize=149%2C87\" width=\"149\" height=\"87\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Seuss-a-Thon<span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif';color: black\">\u00a0\u2014\u00a0The third annual Seuss-a-Thon took place this past Saturday at Park Road Books, and the English Department was very well represented. \u00a0Jeffrey Leak and his son did a great job of reading <i>Green Eggs and Ham. <\/i>\u00a0The audience really had a sense that Jeffrey does not care for green eggs or ham or annoying people who keep pestering him with repetitive questions.<i> \u00a0 <\/i>Angie Williams read <i>Horton Hears a Who, <\/i>and her granddaughter hung on every word. \u00a0Alan Rauch read <i>If I Ran the Zoo. \u00a0<\/i>At one point he broke into a Russian accent, and it added a whole new dimension\u00a0to Dr. Seuss. \u00a0The children&#8217;s literature faculty all participated.\u00a0Paula Connolly read\u00a0<i>The Sneetches,\u00a0<\/i>Beth Gargano read <i>Horton Hatches the Egg,\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0and Anita Moss read <i>And to\u00a0Think I Saw It on Mulberry\u00a0Street.<\/i>\u00a0 Our\u00a0advisors\u00a0also showed up. \u00a0Tiffany Morin kicked off the event by reading <i>The Cat in the Hat, <\/i>and Sarah Minslow practically performed <i>The Butter Battle Book. \u00a0<\/i>Valerie Bright, one of our part-time faculty members, read <i>Bartholomew and the Oobleck. \u00a0<\/i>Several of our graduate students and former graduate students also\u00a0participated. \u00a0In the\u00a0publicity\u00a0leading up to the Seuss-a-Thon, I described it as an English Department event.
