In 2026-27, I am president-elect of the Business History Conference, which I will serve as president in 2027-28. I teach courses on a variety of subjects in the field of US history, including courses on the history of democracy in USA, the history of capitalism, military history, the New Deal, and the military-industrial complex. You can follow me on Bluesky at @ProfMarkWilson.<\/p>\n<h3>Research<\/h3>\n<p>I&#8217;m a historian of military-industrial relations and war mobilizations in US history. My early work focused on the era of the US Civil War; subsequently, I wrote a new history of the business and politics of the US industrial mobilization for World War II. At present, I&#8217;m completing a new book project that explores the development of the so-called military-industrial complex in the USA, from the 1950s into the early 21st century. This book project was being supported in 2022-24 by a grant from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carnegie.org\/awards\/andrew-carnegie-fellows\/2022\/\">Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Media \/ Policy<\/h3>\n<p>My work on World War II industrial mobilization history has attracted some interest in recent years from people curious about how the lessons of that mobilization might be applied to efforts to address the COVID pandemic, or the climate emergency.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a link to a 2026 post by Mike Schmidt, a former CHIPS Program director, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factorysettings.org\/p\/what-does-world-war-ii-teach-us-about\">reflecting on my World War II book and comparisons between the 1940s and 2020s<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a link to my November 2021 piece in <em>Politico Magazine<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2021\/11\/04\/vaccine-manufacturers-are-profiteering-history-shows-how-to-stop-them-519504\">&#8220;Vaccine Manufacturers Are Profiteering.
