Dr. Bottia has more than 24 years of experience doing quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2010 and obtained her master\u2019s degree in Sociology at this institution too. Additionally, she has Master\u2019s degrees in Economics and Environmental Economics and a bachelor\u2019s Degree in Economics from Los Andes University in Bogota, Colombia. Her research interests include the role of K-12 school structural characteristics on college STEM outcomes, identifying the factors significantly related to students&#8217; academic performance when in college, the effects of school composition on educational outcomes, and the impact of the implemented curriculum on students. Her other research interests include illicit drugs and terrorist organizations, and the education of immigrant students. She has published recent articles in Science Education, American Behavioral Scientist, Teachers College Record, Economics of Education Review, and Review of Educational Research, among many others.<\/p>\n<p><b>Research Interests:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Education Policy, STEM, High School, College, Desegregation, Latino Students, Immigrant Students, Armed Conflicts, Drug Trafficking, Violence.
