I am interested in spatial interaction and the formation of spatial organization in diverse geographical scale, from neighborhood to global scale. I currently study the geography of global trade flow, especially examining containerized export shipping records to see the economic regionalization and shrinkage of space under global spatial interaction.

I also have a deep interest in developing spatial econometric methods. I focus on improving estimation of spatial econometric models in small areas under data uncertainty.

Outside of my research, I usually go hiking and travel cities in different countries. I also enjoy reading philosophy books and discussing politics and societies with friends with aromatic tee or coffee, or sometimes, pints of beer.

View Paul’s CV here

Research Interests

Quantitative Economic / Transportation Geography
International Trade, Freight Mobility, Market Access, Violence and Conflicts, Economic Development

GIScience, Spatial Statistics, Spatial Analysis and Modeling
Spatial Econometrics, Spatial Data Uncertainty, Machine Learning Applications, Spatiotemporal Modeling

Neighborhood Dynamics
Urban and Regional Structure, Longitudinal Neighborhood Change, Health Inequality, Population Degrowth

Education

Ph.D. (2021) Geography & Urban Regional Analysis, University of North Carolina at Charlotte

M.C.P.
