PHYS 1101: Lecture Three, Part One
Okay. Welcome, this is Lecture 3.
In this lecture we’re going to be covering the last part of Chapter 1. Chapter 1 is giving us a background on the math skills and some mathematical concepts that we need to start out studying the physics of motion. Today’s lecture covers the components of a vector, the addition of vectors by means of adding components, and I’ll give you plenty of examples for each of these as we go along.
Let’s start out, as we usually do, with a warm-up question at the start of the lecture here. This would test you on the concepts we covered in the previous lecture. These warm-up questions, I’m just going to give points to everybody for giving it a try, but to raise your incentive, if the majority of the class gets it correct I will give more points. So +4 for everyone if 70% of the class gets it right.
Let me encourage you to test out the discussion board that you all have access to through your home page. That will be a good mechanism by which you could discuss this problem to try to increase the chances of getting 4 points. I’ll give everybody +1 just for answering, that’s if 70% of the class doesn’t get it right.
The next question I have is just 1 point for answering. I want to get everybody’s opinion on whether or not it’s okay if I give your email address to the Class Improvement Committee. I think they might like to send out blanket emails to the entire class, either to get your opinion or to announce something. I won’t give them your name, just your email address.
Let me know if that’s okay by answering either yes or no.
