APPAM to Sponsor Sessions at January WEAI Conference in New Zealand

APPAM is sponsoring several conference sessions at next year’s Western Economic Association International’s (WEAI) Pacific Rim Conference. Maureen Pirog, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management , is requesting papers from APPAM members and will be organizing the sessions. She is requesting papers that cover any topic within policy analysis and management be submitted by June 25, 2014. Pirog will be organizing the sponsored sessions from the selection of submitted papers. Full panels will also be considered on any topic within policy analysis and management; panels with at least three papers, three discussants, and a chair will receive strong preference. Read more

From the Director: Four Years Later, APPAM Continues to Grow

I’ve been the Executive Director for four years now. It’s hard for me to remember a time when APPAM wasn’t part of my life. The last few years have been quite eventful and I’m proud of where the organization is and where we are going. What I’d like to do is take a look back at the most memorable things that have happened since 2010. Read more

Fall Research Conference Caucus Proposals Accepted Through June 13

The 2014 APPAM Fall Research Conference is continuing the caucus program format, which debuted last year. The primary purpose for these sessions is to offer a dedicated time for participants to gather informally to discuss new and emerging policy issues, to formulate new research questions, approaches to research and to form possible research collaborations. Unlike last year, however, we do not intend to limit these sessions to one weekend morning. Depending on the response, we will offer caucus sessions throughout the conference. Members are invited to submit their caucus proposals through June 13. Read more

Let me suggest that if you are interested in submitting a proposal, Project Mosaic may be a resource to help.

NSF Seeks Proposals for New Methodologies of Evaluation

The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Education and Human Resources directorate supports the Promoting Research and Innovation in Methodologies for Evaluation (PRIME) program. It is currently soliciting proposals for support of research on evaluation with special emphasis on: “(1) exploring innovative approaches for determining the impacts and usefulness of STEM education projects and programs; (2) building on and expanding the theoretical foundations for evaluating STEM education and workforce development initiatives, including translating and adapting approaches from other fields; and (3) growing the capacity and infrastructure of the evaluation field.”

Three types of proposals will be supported by the program: Exploratory Projects that include proof-of-concept and feasibility studies; more extensive Full-Scale Projects; and workshops and conferences.

The program expects to make 13 to 18 awards in FY 2014. Approximately 7-10 will be full scale projects and approximately 6-8 will be exploratory projects. The remainder of funds will go to support conference and workshop projects, RAPIDs and EAGERs, pending availability of funds. NSF anticipates spending $8 million on these awards pending the availability of funds.

For more information contact: Janice M. Earle, (703) 292-5097 or jearle@nsf.gov; or the PRIME Program Officers, 703-292-8650 or DRLPRIME@nsf.gov.

The proposal deadline is February 1, 2014.
