International Bibliography of Military History

Since 1978 the International Commission of Military History (ICMH) has published the International Bibliography of Military History on a yearly basis. Each issue presents nearly 300 titles of recent publications from around the world by discussing various aspects of military history, a discipline which has now been established as one of the human sciences.

The publications are presented under the responsibility of national commissions of military history (members of the ICMH), as well as its experts and correspondents. Every listed item is followed by a bibliographical note in which interested readers can find specific information about the publication. These notes, not shown on this site, are published in at least two of the languages French, English, German, Italian or Spanish. Five indices (chronological, by persons and authors, geographical and by subject) constitute an important instrument for information and research and facilitate consultation. Since 1992 a scientific report, either on a subject or a country, makes up the second part of the Bibliography.

Not only is the Bibliography a valuable source of information (for professors, historians, military writers, students), it has also proved to be an indispensable instrument which the ICMH hopes will also find its way to university libraries, major schools, archives and specialist bookshops. Those interested in military history who wish to learn more about the evolution and the latest developments in this field of research, or who simply wish to learn more about recent major publications, will find all they need to satisfy their interest.
