I am a graduate of University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a Bachelor of Arts in English. I am currently enrolled in the M.A. in English program with the a concentration in Technical/Professional Writing here at UNC Charlotte. My hobbies include: running, hiking, kayaking, camping, reading and writing poetry, and spending time with my husband and two children.
I currently serve as a Co-Treasurer for the English Graduate Student Association on campus. Duties include the following: budget proposal writing; fundraising, professional communication, including memos, spreadsheets and flyers, and monthly financial reports. As Co-Treasurer, I also help with the coordination of the largest annual student conferences in the southeast. EGSA also host a wide variety of activities for graduation students throughout the academic year. After graduation in the Spring of 2015, I wish to pursue a career in technical writing eventually specializing in content analysis while teaching community college courses in the evening(s).
As I reflect on the power of the image on its audience, I am most impressed by how influential photography is in public discourse as a social and political format. It is uncanny how often modern users take technology for granted. I had the personal pleasure of studying my personal family photograph collections which has been a very rewarding and an educational experience for the entire Patawaran family. We have reunited with estranged family members and are on a path to rekindling long lost connections.
