I am a graduate of Wingate University with a Bachelor of Arts in English with minors in Technical/Professional Writing and Legal Studies, where I was a part of their cross country and track teams. I am currently enrolled in the Technical/Professional Writing Graduate Certificate Program here at UNC Charlotte. My hobbies include: stand up paddleboarding, running, mountain biking, road biking, long boarding, reading, and spending time with my boyfriend and cat.
I currently work for the Union Symphony Society, Inc., where I serve as the Assistant to the Executive Director. Duties include the following: grant writing; professional communication of all genres, including letters, memos, and reports; fundraising; coordination events; social media, such as maintaining Facebook and Twitter accounts; composing content for marketing materials; and composing and distributing Constant Contact. I also work at U.S. National Whitewater Center as a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Instructor. After my certificate completion in August 2014, I wish to pursue a career in technical writing eventually becoming a project manager.
I have thoroughly enjoyed ENGL 6008-090, Visual Rhetoric. One of the best parts of the class was being able to analyze and write on topics of our choice, this pushed me to make connections from our texts to different subjects. In addition, allowing the class to have topics of our choice allowed me to gain greater knowledge of subjects I would have never studied. Having the opportunity to work collaboratively is beneficial to my future career. It is very rare that an individual will work completely alone through an entire project. I learned that time management and communication is the key to having a successful collaboration.
This class has opened my eyes to see the strong effects one invention can have on society. The camera today is an object that is second nature, but studying it since its creation shows its innovations and importance over time.
I hope all of our users find this Web site useful, interesting, and educational. If you have any questions about any of my collaborative or individual work feel free to contact me at r.b.winterling@wingate.edu.
