ACS Project SEED

ACS Project SEED at UNC Charlotte Summer 2025!

Current high school students are urged to consider applying to do paid research this summer at UNC-Charlotte in the Department of Chemistry as part of the American Chemical Society’s Project SEED program. This is an 8 week program (June 9th – August 1st).  In addition to the research experience, participants will also receive a $4,000 stipend.

Students can find out more information about the program at the ACS Project SEED website: http://www.acs.org/content/acs/en/education/students/highschool/seed.html

You can also find important information through the Project SEED Webinar:

Academic Requirements

Students entering their junior or senior year in high school and who have completed at least one high school chemistry course are eligible to apply.

Family Income Requirements

You must be recognized as economically disadvantaged to be considered for Project SEED. Preference is given to students whose maximum family income does not exceed 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines based on family size.

Application

Follow these steps before beginning your application:

  1. Watch this quick application how-to video to familiarize yourself with the new application
  2. Once you have watched the how-to video in step 1, begin your application by navigating to this website: Project SEED Summer 2025
  3. You will need an ACS ID to sign into the application. If you participated in 2024, you most likely have an ACS ID that you used to sign into the LMS. If you have never participated before, use the how-to video in step one to help you create one.
  4. You can come back to the application whenever you like before March 31st. However, you cannot edit the application after submission.
  5. When you arrive to the ‘Site’ page, you will be shown SEED Project Sites that are within a commutable distance form your home. If a SEED Site does not exist near your home, you will see SEED Sites that offer virtual projects. Please read the project list carefully and choose the site accordingly. If you are in contact with a SEED coordinator, discuss with them which SEED Site you should be choosing.
