This work focuses on the role of finance in economic development as well as understanding the urban transformation associated with economic change. This work has been funded by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.provost.uncc.edu\/academic_affairs\/faculty_support_docs\/Fac_Dev_Prgms\/biggs.htm\">John H.
