Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is centered on helping students understand science as a process of discovery rather than simply a body of knowledge to memorize. A central principle of my teaching is the close integration of research and education: I bring current scientific questions, discoveries, and examples from research into the classroom so students can see how textbook concepts are developed, tested, and applied in the real world. I emphasize active discussion and independent thinking, encouraging students to ask questions, evaluate evidence, and develop their own interpretations rather than passively accept information. I prioritize conceptual understanding over memorization, and frequently connect biological principles to real-world challenges and emerging scientific advances. Ultimately, my goal is not only to help students master course content, but also to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking, and the confidence to approach unfamiliar problems independently.
