This course is mainly taught by Professor Jack Scheff. When I teach it, we study Seasonal Prediction, El Nino-Southern Oscillation, and Modes of Climate Variability, drawing from climatology data repositories at NOAA NCEI Climate at a Glance. We used the Multivariate ENSO Index shown below and from NOAA ESRL Physical Sciences Division. Graduate students explore the atmosphere-ocean dynamics of ENSO and other modes of climate variability (NAO, PNA, AO) a little more broadly. Here are the ENSO conditions according to NOAA MEI V2:
Also check out my Masters students work on the Oceanic ENSO Index Eric Webb’s Webberweather. He and I are working to publish his research for the larger scientific community!
