Charles Brody is Professor Emeritus of Sociology having served UNC Charlotte from 2001-2015. He began his tenure as Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. During his chairmanship, the faculty grew considerably in size and stature, doctoral programs in Public Policy and Organizational Science were launched, and Sociology and Anthropology formed separate departments. Following two terms as chair, Brody served for a year as Interim Chair of the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences before moving to the Dean’s Office as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in 2010. In that role, he focused on improving assessment of student learning outcomes across the College and on the development of the QEP for the reaffirmation of SACS accreditation. Upon his retirement in 2015, Brody left UNC Charlotte to become Vice President of Academic Affairs at Misericordia University in northeast Pennsylvania. He returned briefly to UNC Charlotte in spring 2018 in an interim role in the CLAS Dean’s Office. He currently resides in Ashland, Oregon.
