Dr. M. Lyn Exum is a criminologist who typically teaches courses in Criminological Theory, Research Methods, and Professionalism in Criminal Justice & Criminology. His research centers on examining theories of criminal behavior. He has published in the areas of deterrence/rational choice theory (including methodological issues in testing these theories), alcohol and violence, and program evaluation. He has received over $1M in external funding, including grants to study use of force decision making among police officers (National Institute of Justice), the impact of domestic violence police units on offender recidivism (National Institute of Justice), and interventions for high risk drinking on college campuses (US Department of Education).
