Dr. William (Bill) Sofsky is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Accounting in the Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte. Dr. Sofsky joined the Belk College faculty as a Lecturer in 2015. Dr. Sofsky has over 30 years of accounting and industry experience. Prior to joining UNC Charlotte, Dr. Sofsky served as the chief accounting officer of the US Life operations of a large global reinsurance company. After starting his career in public accounting, he worked in accounting, finance and treasury roles in the insurance industry for 26 years. During his insurance industry career, Dr. Sofsky worked for international insurance groups, including four years of international experience in The Netherlands. He has experience and expertise in IFRS, US GAAP and U.S. statutory basis financial reporting for insurance entities and is a former member of the American Council of Life Insurers Reinsurance Accounting Committee. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in North Carolina and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute. He is also a member of the American Accounting Association and the American Institiute of Certified Public Accountants.
