Bio

Daniel A. Grano (Ph.D., Louisiana State University) is a Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His work focuses on intersections between sport and politics, with particular emphasis on health, the body, race, religion, and public memory. He has published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including the Quarterly Journal of Speech, Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies, Rhetoric & Public Affairs, Critical Studies in Media Communication, and Rhetoric Society Quarterly. His book The Eternal Present of Sport: Rethinking Sport and Religion (Temple University Press, 2017) received the Outstanding Book Award from the Communication and Sport Division of the National Communication Association. He is also the co-editor (with Michael Butterworth) of Sport, Rhetoric, and Political Struggle, which was published in 2019 by Peter Lang.
