CURRENT NEWS:

Our next group meeting is scheduled for   WEDNESDAY November 9, 2022  in room 210 of the New Science Building.  Caroline will be leading a discussion of a hydrogel application of iMotif technologies for delivering oral Insulin.

Getting to know the                                                                       Krueger Research team-Fall2022

We are a powerhouse group of primarily female graduate and undergraduate (and sometimes high school) students, each of whom harbor a passion for scientific research. We all want to learn how to properly prepare samples and buffers, collect and analyze data, and effectively communicate our results, trials and questions with one another and the larger scientific community. I hope that you find this website useful in your quest to find out about the research conducted in the Krueger Research group. Students who have the commitment and passion to join our team are invited and encouraged to stop by the laboratory to introduce yourself and/or to attend a scheduled group meeting or two. Email Dr. Krueger if you would like to join us for an upcoming meeting or to schedule a personal interview.

Current Students

Ph.D. Nanoscale Science

Kanika Dhiman
Will be using Small angle X-ray and Neutron Scattering to study Insulin aggregation behavior.
(Lewis) Alex Rolband Structural Studies of Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles
Alex graduated from UNC Charlotte with a BS in Chemistry in the summer of 2019. While an undergraduate, he served in the NC Army National Guard as an artillery observer and a Bradley Fighting Vehicle commander. He also joined our research lab in Spring 2018 and gained a passion for learning Light Scattering techniques. He was accepted into the Nanoscale Science PhD program and plans to collaborate with Dr. Kirill Afonin’s group using SAXS and SANS to study Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles.

Master in Chemistry Students

Caroline WestStructural Studies of Nucleic Acid Quadruplex Formation
Caroline was a post-baccalaureate UG researcher who recently joined the Master’s program in Chemistry and will be working on characterizing the relationship between Lithium ions and the formation of DNA quadruplexes upstream from the serotonin uptake receptor gene.
Bianca AvramStructural studies of Insulin Amyloid Fibrils
Bianca is a senior BS Chemistry Honors student with a minor in Biology who plans to apply to our early entry Masters program this Spring.  She is interested in studying the aggregation phenomena of Insulin using a fluorescence assay she is developing in our lab.

BS Chemistry Undergraduate Students

Sarah Farina
Sarah is a senior BS Chemistry major graduating this Spring. She is working with Caroline West, optimizing the chemistry department’s Circular Dichroism instrument to identify nucleic acid chiral microenvironments.  She is crazy creative and will help to make awesome figures for us! Now, if only we had ChemBio Draw to go with Chem Draw.

Former Master’s Students

Jon Trullinger *12

Protein Stabilization in presence of Ionic Liquids

Jon is currently an Operations Specialist for IQVIA.   Since leaving the lab he has been actively employed in the Research Triangle Area of North Carolina including BASF, TensTech, Inc. and Syngeta
