Telnet is a network protocol used on the Internet or local networks to provide a command-line interface with a remote system. Telnet is now considered to be highly insecure and has been largely abandoned for SSH or other more secure methods.

PuTTY is a free and open-source SSH telnet client and emulator network file transfer application. It allows users to remotely connect to Unix and other terminal systems via a secure channel.  It’s developed for Windows devices.
