The GSA Working Group on WWI was established at the 2006 GSA Meeting in Pittsburgh. This group was formed with the intention of:

  • fostering communication and contact among Germanists whose work relates to WWI (even tangentially)
  • providing mentorship for graduate students interested in WWI scholarship in German-speaking lands
  • facilitating/forming panels at the GSA and other related conferences that focus thematically on WWI
  • meeting annually at the GSA conference for the purposes of furthering scholarship, contact, and collegiality

Group membership currently includes over 85 scholars at institutions in Canada, Austria, England, Germany, United States and includes members working on fields as diverse as Film Studies, Gender, Military History, History of Medicine, Cultural History, Sexuality, Disability, Gender, Literature, Diplomacy, Occupation, Peace Studies, Welfare, Warfare, Technology, Religion, as well as other areas.

If you are interested in joining the GSA Working Group on WWI, please send an email expressing interest to: GSAWWI@uncc.edu and I will be happy to add you to the membership list. Membership in the group is free of costs.

We look forward to hearing from interested comrades!
