Charles Houck

His research focuses on the development, organization and collapse of pre-industrial states, with particular emphasis on the Precolumbian states of Mesoamerica. His fieldwork has concentrated on the examination of settlement patterns in Yucatan, Mexico, and the political, economic and ecological factors that shaped this and other Maya polities. He is also interested in the complex cultural dynamics inherent to conquest and indigenous resistance to colonialism.
