Professor Nenad Sarunac supports activities of EPIC in the area of power generation, efficiency improvement, and energy in general. Prior to joining EPIC, Dr. Sarunac served as Associate Professor at Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science (MEES) Department at UNC Charlotte, and as Associate Director of the Energy Research Center (ERC) at Lehigh University. Dr. Sarunac holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Zagreb, Croatia. During his tenure at Lehigh University, he became known nationally and internationally for his research in power plant performance improvement and emission reduction areas conducted for DOE, EPA, and electric utility industry and his pioneering work on heat recovery, fuel beneficiation, and application of Artificial Intelligence in Power Engineering. Dr. Sarunac has developed and is teaching several energy-related courses at MEES and leads the Energy Concentration at the Department.
