Curriculum Vitae

Carl Westine is an associate professor of educational research at University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he teaches graduate level program evaluation and research methods courses. His research is aimed at finding efficiencies in the planning and execution of evaluations, particularly in STEM education. He accomplishes this through the empirical estimation of design parameter values needed for power analyses as well as through research on evaluation theories, methods, and practice. Dr. Westine is also engaged in applied evaluation and research projects with a focus on improving student success. He has served on various STEM education and health care evaluation, research, and technical assistance projects throughout his career including projects funded through the National Science Foundation and the UNC Student Success Innovations Laboratory. He is also the external evaluator for North Carolina’s State Systemic Improvement Plan. Dr. Westine earned his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Evaluation from Western Michigan University in 2014, and is an active member of the American Evaluation Association.
