Jennifer Whitaker
Jennifer Whitaker is a Professor of Instrumental Music Education and the Coordinator of Music Education in the Department of Music. Whitaker’s experience in public schools includes teaching band in both elementary and secondary schools and orchestra at the middle school level. During her tenure as a public school band and orchestra director, ensembles under her direction received superior ratings at district and state festivals. Whitaker’s research interests include teacher effectiveness and technology in music teaching. She regularly presents research at regional, national, and international music education conferences, and her research is published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, and the American Journal of Distance Education. She currently serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Music Education: Research.
Whitaker received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from George Mason University, and a Master of Music in Music Education and a Ph.D. in Music Education from Louisiana State University. She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, NAfME: The National Association for Music Education, the International Society for Music Education, the College Music Society, the North Carolina Music Educators Association, and the South Central District Band Association (NC).
