Cohousing and Charlotte’s first cohousing development

Robert Boyer, UNC Charlotte (Charlotte, NC): Cohousing and Charlotte’s first cohousing development

Cohousing is a community-centered housing model that blends private dwelling units and shared public spaces. In the past twenty years, the cohousing movement has diffused slowly across the United States, drawing influence from similar movements in Northern Europe and a centuries-long legacy of intentional community in North America. This presentation will provide an overview of cohousing as a community-based approach to addressing global sustainability dilemmas, and introduce “Charlotte Cohousing” a local group in the early stages of building a cohousing community in Charlotte.
