This course is now mainly taught by Professor Jack Scheff. I developed the course just before Dr. Scheff joined UNC Charlotte and focused the material on Seasonal Weather Prediction, the El Nino-Southern Oscillation, and Modes of Climate Variability, drawing from climatology data repositories at NOAA NCEI Climate at a Glance. We used the Multivariate ENSO Index shown below and from NOAA ESRL Physical Sciences Division. Even though I haven’t taught the course for a while, research by some of my graduate students still touches on ENSO. In that spirit, below are the ENSO conditions according to NOAA MEI V2.
