I teach courses that support undergraduate studies in Meteorology and Earth Sciences Programs (Earth and Environmental Sciences BS, Environmental Studies BA) at UNC Charlotte. The Meteorology Program and the Earth Sciences Programs are part of the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Geographical Sciences which houses research, teaching, and degree programs in meteorology and Earth sciences, and also GIS science, human geography, physical geography, and geological sciences.
I also teach classes that support the MS Earth Sciences graduate program that is housed in the same department as the undergraduate programs described above. I have been the MS Earth Sciences “Graduate Program Director” or GPD since January 2021 and this has given me a view of the MS program that is unique compared to other faculty in my department. In particular, the MS GPD runs the Earth Sciences Graduate Seminar as well as advising and working on degree progress with every MS student, fields questions from faculty related to the MS program, acts as a liaison between our department, college, and the Graduate School, and finalizes all committee decisions related to graduate student application reviews. As a member of the Graduate Faculty, I also advise research for a small number of MS students working on topics related to my own research expertise.

My atmospheric sciences colleagues teaching in department include Dr. Casey Davenport, Dr. Matt Eastin, Dr. Jack Scheff, Dr. Ian Chang, and Mr. Terry Shirley. I also work with colleagues teaching in the Earth and Environmental Sciences to develop and refine curriculum that collectively prepares our students for what happens after they leave the shelter of the university.
