Rick Johnson is a Drainage & Wastewater Strategic Advisor for Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) Capital Portfolio Management Office.  His current responsibilities include serving as project manager for a city stream restoration project and a combined sewer control project.

Previously, Rick was the Department’s lead Stormwater & Wastewater representative for the Alaskan Way Viaduct & Seawall Replacement Project plus other interdepartmental City transportation projects that included a significant drainage component.  Over the past 15 years, he has primarily worked within the field of Stormwater Management.  Prior to joining the City of Seattle, Rick was a Hydraulics Engineer for the Washington State Department of Transportation where he served as co-lead for the revision of the Department’s Highway Runoff Manual.

Rick has been an active member of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute’s (EWRI) Sustainability Committee since 2006 and served as Chair in 2011 to 2012.  He has presented or served as moderator at EWRI conferences.  In addition, he presented a paper on Stormwater Low-Impact Development Practices at Novatech in Lyon, France in 2007.  Rick holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Civil Engineering & Mathematics from the University of Nebraska.
