INSS Newsletter March 2014

Conference Participants: We’re looking forward to seeing you soon! In the meantime, please help us prepare by filling out a short form with keywords about your work and contact information for other attendees. And several of you wanted some pre-conference readings, which you can find here (contact us if you’ve a member and have forgotten the password).

Its Not Too Late to Join Us in April: While in-person registration has closed, the virtual/online attendee registration deadline is March 25. Please register, or see the meeting information.

Conference Agenda: The final agenda for the April conference is now available.

Travel Information: Information on funding questions, hotels, and other items related to travel to the conference is on the website here.

CollaborationPossibilty: Dianne Quigley advised us of a NSF funding opportunity for urban sustainability: “The goals of the 2014 NSF Sustainability Research Networks Competition (SRN) is to develop and support multidisciplinary teams of researchers, educators, managers, policymakers and other stakeholders working together to conduct cutting-edge research, education and outreach that addresses grand challenges in urban sustainability.” More details.

New Member Directory is Coming! We’re going to launch a new member directory at the conference. If you’re not able to attend the conference in person or online, please help us identify keywords about your work for our directory here.

INSS Blog this Month: Recent INSS blog posts included an interview with Kent Glenzer as part of our series on learning about other network members. Coming soon are posts about integrating social sustainability into businesses, and profiles of other members. Please enjoy the ideas of our network members and join the conversation through comments and your own posts (email socialsustainabilitynetwork [at] gmail [dot]com if you have an idea for a blog post).

Second Call for Papers: Several of our network members are organizing a special issue on Sustainability in the Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management. If you have research in this area, the call is available here (deadline is May 2, 2014).

Know someone who should be a member?

We are always recruiting new members for the network, particularly in underrepresented areas, like practitioners in public health, safety, or planning. If you know anyone working in these areas, please recommend them here.

Finally, welcome to our new members, and we hope to see all of you in a few short weeks!
